Happy Canada Day!

It's been 143 years since Canada first started. It's been 137 years since our province joined Confederation.

Birthdays are important. They're milestones to mark, to reflect, to look back and think about how far we've grown.

We've made a lot of advances in 143 years. Most have been good. Some...remain to be seen whether they are good or not. But I am thankful that we live in Canada, and not in a place where there is no freedom at all to worship and to voice our opinions, and where there is no right to access medical care, and these are only the obvious freedoms we have.

It's easy to take our freedoms and rights for granted. We're always thinking how it could be better - and in a way that is good, because at least we are striving for improvement. But today, let's thank God for what we already have - because the attitude of gratitude is way undervalued in our society, and this mind-set has crept into the church as well.

In whatever way we choose to celebrate Canada's birthday, (and for my American friends, Happy Independence Day on July 4th : 234 years is quite the accomplishment!!) let's remember that our great nations were founded on biblical principles and that this seems to be the reason why we enjoy the level of prosperity we enjoy compared to so many countries who have rejected God and who actively persecute His people.

Thank God we live where we do!
